Commercial Music Scholarships
MSUM offers a variety of music scholarships for vocalists and instrumentalists alike. Music majors and non-music majors are equally considered for scholarship awards in order to perform in MSUM ensembles such as the Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Guitar Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. Area-specific scholarships for music education, piano, composition and academics are also available for current students and upperclassmen. Applying a music scholarship is easy! All MSUM scholarships (music, academic, and more) use the same online scholarship application. Once the application is completed, you should follow the steps below to complete the music audition process.
Music Scholarship Auditions
Friday, February 21, 2025
We hold our Winter Scholarship Audition Day for students each February as a part of a full day of activities for applicants, including the opportunity to “sit-in” and rehearse with an ensemble, observe a class, go on a campus tour, and meet with faculty and students from MSUM. Email the School of Performing Arts at spa@mnstate.edu to schedule your Winter Scholarship Audition Day activities!
By Appointment
If you are unable to attend our two formal Scholarship Audition days, you may also schedule a private on-campus audition any day before March 1. If you cannot come to campus for a live audition, you may also provide a link to an online audition (YouTube, DropBox) before the March 1 deadline; however, on-campus auditions are preferred. Please email spa@mnstate.edu so we can help you get started and to receive guidance on how to schedule a private audition or create an audition video.
Please Note: All music scholarship students are strongly encouraged to also apply for an academic scholarship based upon your SAT/ACT scores. The deadline for an academic scholarship application is February 1.
