Apply for Financial Aid

Students and their FAFSA contributors begin the financial aid application process by each creating a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID using the link below. The FSA ID allows individuals to access Federal Student Aid websites and complete the FAFSA.

Create an FSA ID

  • Once all contributors have their FSA ID, submit the FAFSA.
  • The 2024-2025 FAFSA, available now at studentaid.gov, is used to determine eligibility for fall 2024, spring 2025 and summer 2025.

All first year, transfer and continuing students are encouraged to submit the MSUM Scholarship Application during the annual application period (October 1 - February 1).

Undergraduate Student Financial Aid Application Process

Financial aid for degree-seeking graduate students is available through the Federal Unsubsidized Loan program, work-study and private loans. Some departments offer graduate assistantships, internships or tuition waivers.

Graduate students are also encouraged to submit the MSUM Scholarship Application during the annual application period (October 1 - February 1).

Graduate Student Financial Aid Application Process

Students who attend MSUM for a second bachelor’s degree different from their first degree, certain certifications, or licensures, or students completing work for a graduate program at MSUM are eligible for federal student aid.

Students seeking a second major or minor are not eligible for federal student aid, but may apply for private loans.

Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for federal student aid. There are two options for assistance covering educational expenses:

  1. Set up a payment plan with Nelnet Business Solutions.
  2. Apply for a private student loan. Some private loans require applicants to complete the FAFSA. We will contact you if that is a requirement or in additional information is necessary.
