Tutoring

Tutoring Services are available in-person on the first floor of the MSUM Library on the south side of the building in the Tutoring Commons. To find a tutor in your subject area, follow the tutoring schedule link (you must be logged in to myMSUM) to view the schedule. 

You can see course offerings and tutor availability next to the course for which you’d like tutoring. Tutors are available on the first floor of the MSUM Library in the Tutoring Commons for the times listed; you are welcome to stay for just a few minutes, or the entire time our tutors are available. That is the convenience of drop-in tutoring. If drop-in times are not listed, don't work for your schedule, or you'd prefer to meet with a tutor in a small group setting, most subjects are also available by a one-time or recurring appointment request.

While most academic subjects are available via drop-in tutoring, we do have a few subjects that are set up by request only. If drop-in tutoring times do not work for you, you'd prefer a small group meeting, or the subject is noted as available by request only, follow the link in the schedule to submit a request for tutoring. You will have the ability to request sessions in-person on the first floor of the library in the tutoring commons, or virtually via Zoom. Please note that Zoom sessions are reserved for distance students or those with necessary accommodations. All session requests are subject to tutor and course availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Once your session is scheduled, you’ll receive an outlook calendar invite from Tutor@mnstate.edu noting the day and time of your session, including the location (Tutoring Services on the first floor of the library), or a link to the Tutor Zoom Room. You should receive a response and scheduled session within three business days of submitting your request. Sessions will be scheduled based on your availability and the availability of the tutor. If you have not received an email with your scheduled session confirmation within four business days from when you submitted the request form, please contact the Academic Success Center and we will check on the progress of your request.

If you cannot attend a scheduled session, please let us know at least two hours prior to the start of your session by emailing both Tutor@mnstate.edu, and your tutor. You will receive their contact information with your scheduled session confirmation.

We offer a variety of in person, drop-in tutoring for primarily 100 and 200-level courses in core subject areas. Subjects include but are not limited to accounting, astronomy, economics, math, nursing, science, and a variety of liberal arts and sciences. Check the tutoring schedule for a full list of subject offerings, times available for drop-in, and to find the tutor request form.

With drop-in, there is no commitment! You can drop-in to see a tutor once a week, multiple times a week, or to prepare for an upcoming assignment, quiz, or exam.

With scheduled sessions, please notify your tutor and email Tutor@mnstate.edu if you no longer need tutoring services and wish to cancel a reoccurring scheduled tutoring session.

The math department offers tutoring for a variety of 100 level math courses. Tutors are available for in person, drop-in tutoring in MacLean 278 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. See the Math Tutoring website for more information.

The University Writing Support Center offers appointments with a trained tutor so that students may receive constructive feedback on any paper they wish to improve. Visit this link to learn more about the UWSC and to schedule a tutor time.

How do I access Tutor.com?
Access the Tutor.com website via a link on your D2L Brightspace main page. Every student will be given a total of 15 hours of tutoring to use over the course of the Fall and Spring semesters. Should you use up all your available hours before the end of the academic year, simply contact Kayla Jones to request more information.

Follow these steps to get started:

• Go to D2L Brightspace main page and locate the Tutor.com link under the Academic Support dropdown on the main navigation bar. You can also find a link to Tutor.com within your course pages.

Technology Requirements and Troubleshooting tips:

• Disable all popup blockers for the site
• Enable cookies and Javascript
• Enable ActiveX if you are running Internet Explorer
• Install Flash Player if needed
