Physical Education
If you’re looking to excel as a leader in today’s diverse K-12 classrooms and desire to promote the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of young people, MSUM’s BS in Physical Education-Teaching is for you. With this degree, you will develop an understanding of how individuals differ in their approaches to learning and create appropriate instruction adapted to these differences. You will also take required courses for teacher licensure. While the Bachelor of Science is the degree of choice of nearly all of our students, you can also earn a BA in Physical Education (non-teaching). The BA will teach you to lead, instruct and motivate individuals or groups in a variety of exercise activities.
MSUM has a rich history as a prestigious teaching college and continues to highly value education teachers. Your classes are taught by knowledgeable and experienced professors who are eager to share their experiences with you. Plus, an advisory board of educators, alumni and faculty ensures you’re receiving the most relevant education for today’s teaching challenges.
The Physical Education degree promotes kinesthetic learning, or tactile learning, which focuses on active, hands-on physical activities in outside and inside environments. More than 100 hours of in-classroom experiences will bring you into area classrooms, by volunteering at various schools to promote health and wellness, and with a final field teaching placement where you’re paired with a teacher mentor.
The education learning community gives you the opportunity to live and learn with other first-year education majors.
MSUM’s Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) Certificate prepares you for licensure to teach physical education to students with special needs and/or disabilities. DAPE is identified as a teacher shortage area and greatly increases your employability within the teaching field.
MSU Moorhead is committed to providing you exceptional field experience beginning at the start of your education and continuing until graduation.
