Welcome to the #DragonFamily: Izzy Fraser-Milewsky
Izzy Fraser-Milewsky is MSUM’s new Sustainability Coordinator.
Q: What about MSUM interested you?
A: I did my undergrad degree here before I went to grad school. I have always loved the community, how small and close knit it is. What really attracted me to come back for a job was being able to return something back to the community that gave a lot to me as a student. I think for me it is all about the community; it just feels like coming back home.
Q: How do you think your time studying at MSUM will help you with your new position?
A: I think it was so fundamental to figuring out what I wanted to do in life. And getting to be involved with other people in the community who have similar goals to mine. And getting to build those connections at such a young age in college was very pivotal to my life. MSUM gave me such a springboard to what I wanted to do. I didn’t know I wanted to go to grad school till I got here, I had no idea what career I wanted to have, and I just lucked into a super awesome sustainability program and everything fell into place. I love it here.
Q: What’s a tip you have for staying focused on work?
A: I usually take frequent short breaks, so I like to work for 25 minutes then take a five-minute break, as well as play good classical music in the background.
Q: How do you think having a sustainability coordinator will benefit MSUM?
A: I think that having a central person who can answer sustainability questions will be really helpful for the university moving forward. And I think being able to take that workload off of other people, who are already super busy, will be really helpful. There are a bunch of sustainability committees and clubs on campus and having one person be the liaison between all of them will help everyone work well together.
Q: What is your best piece of advice for students looking at the same career path as you?
A: Get involved with a project you are passionate about; find something you really care about and invest your time in that. Instead of doing what you think you should do, do what you really care about.
Q: What is one of your favorite hobbies?
A: I really like to knit and crochet. I am also really excited for the farmers market to start up. It’s such a nice local community; it makes me feel really engaged with the F/M area.
