Sustainability
The Bachelor of Science in Sustainability is an excellent degree to prepare for emerging jobs in the green economy while making the world a better place. While most sustainability programs focus on natural resources or technology, MSUM is one of very few universities in the country to focus on the entire spectrum of sustainability. The focus on sustainability in our society crosses all disciplines with the shared goal of preserving and promoting a healthy planet. MSUM’s sustainability degree will prepare you to understand the challenges and opportunities in a growing green economy.
The program is unique to the region. It’s the only Sustainability bachelor’s degree offered in Minnesota and North Dakota.
The interdisciplinary curriculum draws on contributions from over a dozen departments, allowing you to select a double major, if you want, without adding significant time to your academic career.
You will gain hands-on experience through a senior project or internship that will develop an in-depth understanding of vital topics such as biodiversity, climate change, resource management, environmental pollution, environmental politics, social change patterns and more. It provides a practical introduction to the field and reinforces your personal and career goals.
Experienced, engaged faculty teach from personal practice in the field. They represent many fields of expertise from anthropology and chemistry to geosciences and physics.
